So, today was relatively normal...but a few different and exciting occurences make it stand out in my mind as one of those special days that will not be soon forgotten...or at least the small details of it.
I woke up today at an earlier time, 7:30, in order to get some extra studying in and some online quizzes done. I actually have to do online quizzes for a lot of my classes, and my one professor requires that you pass a 25 question quiz with at least 70% before you come to class. Good thing I'm excellent at skimming through chapters, because I got an 84% without ACTUALLY reading!
I also experienced an excellent time with the daily devotional on the
14forty website. If you haven't checked this out yet, there's a link under my "+stuff" menu to the site. Additionally, there are some more videos in there that should rock your face off. I know they do that for me!
The other night us girls set up our answering machine. You all should call it sometime and listen to the machine. IM me if you want the number. It's good times great oldies.
So back to today. I get to my finance class today and everything is going according to a normal class period. The guy is pretty entertaining most of the time, we're taking notes, and he's teaching us lots of good stuff. Halfway through the class, someone asks a question about calculators, because apparently we need one that is able to perform financial functions. I guess there are quite a few calculators out there that can do this. At any rate, he starts helping people figure it all out and he notices that some girl has just recently purchased a financial calculator.
"Oh I see you got a brand new one," he says to her.
"Yeah," she says. "The only problem is I can't get it open."
"Oh here, let me get that," he says.
Before anyone has any time to predict what's coming, my professor reaches into his pocket and pulls out a 4 inch blade and just rips into this girls calculator package. It's a sharp blade too! It just slices right through that thing! I mean, man, talk about the unexpected! Then after class I see him pull it out again and clean out his fingernails with it. I'm telling you what, this guys has moved up from mildly entertaining to incredibly interesting. That whole little incident actually reminds me a little of a friend I like to call Johnosaurus Rex. You guys may know him as John McCormick though...super cool kid for sure.
Then, I'm walking around the courtyard in downtown campus and all of sudden this guy who is like sleeping on a bench sits up really fast and I swear he asks me if I'm in his literature class. Now, for those of you who don't know my schedule, I'm taking Management, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Management this semester. So my first response to him, without even really listening I guess, is "nope, I don't think so." He looks at me very confused and says, "Oh alright. Sorry my mistake." "It's alright!" I respond cheerfully and walk away.
Well, I arrive later that afternoon in one of my management classes and as the guy's lecturing, I look across the aisleway directly into the eyes of the guy that asked me if I was in his literature class. I guess he was really asking me if I'm in his management class. whoops...guess I missed that one.
Today I had my first Honors Council meeting of the year. We made some more plans for the big retreat this weekend and I'm helping figure out and plan a worship service for Sunday morning. That should be so cool. I'm telling you what, God is opening so many doors for me left and right to serve Him this year in leadership. Very cool.
After that a group of us went out to this thing at Resurrection Life Church called Access. For those of you who have never been to
Rez Life, you should go to their website for sure. They have free sermon downloads under the "Resources" section which are phenominal. Awesome church to go to for good lessons in the Word. Anyway, Access is basically this college level service where they sing praise songs, we hear a message, and then we do an altar call. Tonight Jessie responded to that call, which I thought was totally awesome. It takes so much bravery to do that in front of all those people. I respect anyone who can do that, because that is so cool. Anyway, it was a pretty good time. I'm not sure if I'll go back, but it was a good time for sure. We played some pool afterwards and some of us enjoyed our free chocolate shakes. mmmmm...good times were had by all.
Tomorrow I do not have any classes. I just love Fridays now because of it. I'm gonna spend my day coloring a fuzzy art poster, listening to some sermons, and otherwise, just relaxing 'til I have to head out to Camp Manitou-Lin. I'm looking forward to this weekend, but really I'd just like the year to be completely underway so that I can get my schedule all worked out. Overall, I've been having a good few weeks here at the GVSU. No doubt this trend will continue.
