:: Say wha?? ::
It's amazing how sometimes we are just so oblivious to how we can affect one another in life. More importantly, we're oblivious to how God's work in us can change and improve anyone's life, even if you don't always notice or realize this.
I went to drama team on Monday and it was just completely awesme. We had two new people join, both men, by the way, which is hard to come by for a Christian drama team. So we all took turns introducing ourselves. I mentioned the Bible Study that Craig, Jessie, Jason and I lead on Sundays, and Zac, who attends, just got this huge grin on his face and even rubbed his eyes a little. He just got so joyful about the Bible study! He was tearing up! I asked him if he was crying and he said, "Steph and I just love your bible study so much." I couldn't believe it! I mean, I thought that the Bible study was going great this semester for sure. But I had no idea that this group was being so incredibly affected by what we were doing that that kind of joy would come out of it. God never ceases to amaze me.
I met with my marketing professor a couple of Mondays ago. It was kind of interesting how it all happened. I had had her last semester for MKT 350 and she was just a great professor. She's the one who pulled the "My name is Jim and I had a sex change" gag on her husband's community college class. I also happened to know that she was a Christian, because Brandon, an acquaintance from His House, mentioned this to me at the beginning of the semester. Yet, I never really took the time to talk to her about Jesus.
Well, I attended a meeting for the American Marketing Association recently where they were having a guest speaker. It was here that I ran into my professor, Maria Landon. We sat nezt to each other, chatted a little, but nothing too significant came up. The woman speaking is a marketing associate for a major West Michigan tanning salon (or salons because they have several locations). She was speaking on goal-setting and achieving. She actually had a lot of great stuff to share, but one thing she said just hit me wrong.
She was explaining that in order to achieve goals we must make our goals realistic. She gave two examples but the one that rubbed me the wrong way was, "If I have cancer when I'm 40 it is not a realistic goal to want to live to be 102." I guess I must have gotten this incredulous look on my face, because as soon as I looked over at Maria, she looked back and asked me, "What were you thinking just then?" I had a brief battle in my head for a couple of minutes debating whether or not I should tell her exactly what I had thought, and decided I wasn't going to hold back. "With God, all things are possible." Maria nodded emphatically and said, "Yes, Elizabeth. Exactly. I thought the same thing." She then proceeded to ask me if we could get together sometime and I said that yes, I would like that. We got together the following Monday and spent a good 30-45 minutes talking about God. It was awesome. Surprising, but awesome.
Jessie and I are going to go see Mercy Me and Jeremy Camp perform tomorrow night. I think it's going to be some good times and great oldies. Tonight we're talking about fellowship at Home Acres and the leaders get to play sheep. BAAAAAAHHHH!
