:: You always stay true when my world is lost... ::
Well, my week has been exciting enough for me so far that I have managed to confuse today with Monday on numerous occasions. Probably the main reason is because yesterday still seemed like the weekend and today was incredibly long!
I enjouyed a Grand Rapids excursion with Kevin and Tod yesterday, who were good enough friends to drive all the way up here for a an evening with a band they had never heard before! Not that the rest of you are rotten friends, they just earned bonus points this week. So, we headed out to IHOP where we managed to find ourselves in one of those completely random, 100% offensive Kevin-Tod-Liz conversations that seem to always happen. Plots on how to best punish the dog that urinates frequently in Tod's bedsheets (while eliminating the entire vegetarian population at the same time), how to best prepare dogs in Korean dishes, eating fetuses (that's a long story so don't ask), and make dresses for la abuela that remind her how to use the restroom facilities. All of this within earshot of fellow diners and friends. Those guys are two crazy kids.
We then spent some time at my place playing hangman before heading out to the concert. The show was most excellent indeed, and waiting in line we plotted more fetal feasting adventures. The show opened with a local band, Menage, whose instrumental numbers were both soothing and electrifying, flowing peacefully from one song to the next. I gotta say, they may be one of my new favorite local acts. Vera came on the stage next, which was lead by a spunky female vocalist that was super shy and nervous to be watched. Their numbers were good, but lacked the musical variety of Menage and Mute Math. Mute Math definitely tore the house down though, with their unusual stage setup (the drummer was right out front with the rest of them), their rockin' keytair, they're homemade instrument that can only be described as a leaf-blower looking guitar that made rockin' robot and police car noises, and the overall tightness of their songs. They had the musical variety of Menage and the rockof Vera with the lyrics that definitely reflected their faith. It was a super cool time and I was pleased to hear from both Kevin and Tod that they enjoyed ALL of the bands that performed! YES! I'm not the only one who likes Mute Math now!
My next suggestions to all of you who are looking for new bands: "Arctic Monkeys" and "The Subways." Hit 'em up on Purevolume!
